Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.
| BMI | Classification | Health Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Below 18.5 | Underweight | Possible nutritional deficiency and osteoporosis |
| 18.5 - 24.9 | Normal weight | Low risk (healthy range) |
| 25.0 - 29.9 | Overweight | Moderate risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes |
| 30.0 and Above | Obese | High risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes |
Note: BMI is not used for muscle builders, long distance athletes, pregnant women, the elderly or young children.
